Salmon & wild brown trout fishing on our own beat

Kildrummy Fishings - River Don

Kildrummy fishings march with Glenkindie and Ardhuncart on the north bank and with Towie and Brux on the South bank, access is good and most pools can be accessed by just a short walk from the road or from the tracks alongside the river.

The Kildrummy water is typical of the Upper Don, clearly defined pools and streams that are a joy to both trout and salmon anglers at most sensible water heights.

Within the 4 mile stretch there are a number of deep pools that hold good numbers of salmon from mid-summer onwards and spring fish are also caught here.

Recent catch data for spring salmon is not a true reflection of the beats potential as there are few anglers wielding salmon rods during springtime on the Don, partly due to a reduction in the runs of spring fish in recent years and also due to the superb quality of brown trout fishing on the river in spring.

Trout fishing at Kildrummy is excellent throughout the season but spring tends to bring the bigger fish to the surface. Hatches in the spring can be excellent, and most seasons good hatches of March Browns and Large Dark Olives readily bring hungry trout to the surface.

Following a mild winter, trout fishing can be excellent from opening day. In cold years or following a harsh winter fishing can be slow until early April.
